Social Calendar April 2 to 6, 2015: the Easter Edition

Easter weekend is here! Now for some, it is all about a quite dapper rabbit who lays chocolate eggs. And for others, it is all about spring break fun/regrets. Still more actually attach some spiritual significance to the season. Whatever your view, Campo is here for you.

Starting you off easy with the ongoing Crafts Fair at the August 7th Memorial Park. It will run up till April 3, 8 AM – 4 PM daily. Entry is free so go support a local artisan.

The 63rd KCB Safari Rally is back to the traditional time of year. Pre-rally “scrutineering” will continue tomorrow, April 2, so head over to the Galleria Mall to get up close look at all the motors.

Drivers in this epic race will be flagged off at 8 AM on the 3rd at the KICC to traverse three counties in three days. So if you’re in Nairobi, Meru or Machakos, come on out and show your support. Responsibly.

‘Tis the season to feast. And the first in line is the MPRK end-of-2014-crossover Street Festival. April 3 to 5 at the Central Park in Nairobi. There will be music, “carnival activities”, a pageant (MPRK = Miss Pink Ribbon Pageant) and a midnight marathon. Kid’s are welcome to visit during the day but adults can hang out over the full 48 hours. Day rates for children: 300/=, Adults: 1000/=. Overnight: 1,500/=, VIP: 2,500/=.

Adawnage Band’s Easter tour hits Machakos. A worship workshop at AIC Bomani on the 4th at 2 PM. Then on the 5th, the band will be at the 8.30 worship service at the same church, thereafter a worship experience at ACK Machakos from 3-5 PM.

Social Calendar: 6th to 8th March 2015 *UPDATED*

There’s so much going down this weekend and Campo has the skinny. Hope you packed food and water; it’s a long list.

Senegalese singer/guitarist Marema is making a stop on her African tour in Kenya. She’ll be at the Alliance Francaise in Nairobi on Friday, March 6 at 7.30 PM, then at the Alliance Francaise in Mombasa on Saturday, March 7 at 6 PM. Peeps in Nairobi gotta pay 500/= but it sounds worth it.

*Sarafina, the musical by Mbogeni Ngema will be on stage all weekend at St Mary’s. Friday and Sunday shows will be at 6.30 PM, while the Saturday matinee will be at 1 PM. Prices vary so visit their website for more details.*

Also on March 6 is #MakeitHappen, in honor of the International Women’s Day. Fena and Dela will be at the Nairobi Museum Amphitheater to celebrate the Kenyan woman from 9 PM. This is a classy affair so you know there’s a dress-code. It will set you back 500/= advance or twice as much at the door.

And as for the club hoppers and show stoppers, this Friday promises to be a dream night. Take your pick among

If you’re a tardy social butterfly like me, you might not have nailed down your weekend plot. Never fear, Campo is here to save the day. This is the last weekend of February, there is so much going on.

Friday, 27th Feb:

There’s something going down at the Kenyatta University Campsite. EDM EUPHORIA by No Dejays Crew has been called “a rapturous ecosystem” of entertainment, decor & lighting, bars and fun social environments, outdoors. After that early evening rave, you should be in the mood for something more mellow. Take your pick of these four events, each costs just 500/=.

The Caged Bird Sings is a play based on the works of the late great Maya Angelou at the Phoenix Theatre. See their Facebook page for show times.

Head over to the Goethe-Institut Auditorium for some spoken word/soul fusion: The other side of the Mirror with Mufasa, Vereso and the Band.

There will be a Night of Acoustic Music at the Michael Joseph center from 7 pm featuring Christian Lwanda, Ivlyn Mutua, Isaac Kimani among others.

For the movie buffs, Future Shorts Kenya, a global pop up film festival showcasing some of the most exciting short films from around the world is going down at The Bus, #80 Muthithi Road.

If after that you still got it in you, head out for some after-party. It’s Live Band Karaoke Night at the K1 Klubhouse, Karen’s Karaoke Night at the Hilton Jockey Club, Vibetown at BJ’s Bar in Buru and Flashback Fridays at Klub Clique 21 in Nakuru with Solinga Music.
