TBT: Cartoons of the 80’s and 90’s that will fill you with Nostalgia

I know we can all agree that our childhood would have been boring without Cartoons to spice it up.Growing up most people spent countless hours watching their favorite cartoons before school, after school, on the weekends, or during holiday breaks. We  would watch as many of our favorite ‘toons as much as we possibly could.Growing up really sucks especially with all the responsibilities.

Who remembers the Gargoyles (1994). This animated series featured nocturnal creatures known as gargoyles that would turn to stone  during the day. After spending a thousand years in an enchantingly petrified state, the gargoyles would come back to life in modern-day New York to take on roles as the city’s secret night-time protectors and fight crime. How cool is that?…Their leader was called Goliath as a kid you would almost worship him at the sound of his mighty voice lol.

Y’all know what would happen to Popeye the Sailor man whenever he would eat Spinach. This Cartoon got so many children eating spinach  because they wanted muscles popping out just like Popeye’s.In reality spinach may not have been as powerful as they thought, nutritionally, but it most  certainly had a powerful PR effect. “Popeye helped increase American consumption of spinach by a third!”Am sure it did so much for African kids too

Johnny Bravo was an interesting muscular and boorish man who tried to get women to date him, but most of the time he was very unsuccessful.Johnny was a dumb blond egomaniac who was all the deluded about his own manliness..He is famous for the phrase ‘Hey pretty Mama’ and usually after using that phrase he would get  beat up pretty badly ..That made it fun for most kids right?

johhny

Cow and Chicken. This one basically focused on the misadventures of two unlikely yet somehow biological siblings Cow and Chicken,am sure most of us tried to visualize how their parents actually looked like especially because they were half people lol

Animaniacs. I bet their theme song just played in your head just now..I know ..we just can’t help it 😉 It consisted the Warner Brothers characters, appearing in a wide variety of roles including Wakko, Yakko, and Dot Warner and so many others including Chicken Boo the giant chicken that tried  to integrate into human society lol

I know a few people who are still attached to looney tunes to date,it is not easy to get over bugs bunny,Daffy Duck Tweety and the rest…They are just so awesome!Their stupidity is just so comforting..

looney lunes

I could go on and on but am sure everyone remembers something special about these ‘toons’.It isad to imagine that  today’s cartoons are not like what they used to be.They are either too violent for little kids to watch or lack valuable lessons and the comic relief we were all used to.They can’t compete with the cartoons 90s babies watched while growing up. click to view some the best compilation of the 80’s/90’s cartoons.

A letter to my future wife

Very Interesting Piece!!! A letter to my future wife

These words of my own

Dearest,

I have been thinking about you lately; no am not a senior bachelor who feels his timeline for a catch is not quickly ticking out nor am I ready for such a commitment at the moment. Regardless, you are often a reverie especially if my bed is oddly huge and spacious or when huge vocabularies in my mind with an –ing suffix such as cooking, ironing, cleaning, laundry and chastity start becoming  eccentric to my kind of Adam species. But for the sake of peace and good times ahead please ignore the latter.

By now you must be amazed of how romantic it is for me to write to you prior to our first date rather, that electrifying first eye contact. In consideration that I am writing this letter in the wee hours of the morning on an insomnia spell shows how much I love you. Frankly, my campus…

Ever heard of the quote ‘A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops’ ?How about teaching is the profession that teaches other professions.I could go on and on but what I am trying to say is teachers are important. They are what you may call the backbone of an educated society.Teachers play a very important role in the success of individuals but most of the time they go unappreciated.

Yesterday, as we celebrated World Teacher’s Day,Jacaranda Africa  launched ‘Asante Mwalimu’ an  initiative   aimed at challenging ALL Kenyans to take a stand for teachers by appreciating and recognizing the important role they play in society. This campaign  seeks to motivate teachers to not only feel appreciated but also to understand their contribution to education and development is significant. The function was held at Dagoretti Youth Empowerment Center and Kiarie John (KJ) of the famous show Redikyullas was the Guest of honor.

asa

In his speech,KJ said that teachers are great mentors, role, models and trainers. He recounted his first day in school when he asked to go to the toilet in his mother tongue he said “wapi Kioro”(where is the toilet)His teacher then carefully guided him on how to politely ask for permission to go to the toilet.Teachers are instill positive change in the mind of young children and they stick by it.In another forum Radio Personality Lulu Saidi said that she cannot step on grass simply because her teacher said it is wrong to do so.KJ also got the pupils present during the function singing to I know I can,(Be what I what I wanna) by Nas.He attributed his success to his Primary school teacher Mr. Mwangi who taught him and nurtured his talent,he believed in him and encouraged him to pursue his passion which is Arts.

The Asante Mwalimu initiative therefore targets  anyone who would like to appreciate their teachers for the wonderful role they played. Nominate your best teacher and thank them.Celebrities such as Churchill,Chipukeezy and Erick Omondi have all recorded videos appreciating teachers who motivated them. Asante Mwalimu Youtube Channel

MAN AND BEAST : The Fraught Relationship!

king lionking lion 2

Ever wondered what goes on in the mind of any animal?I think it is pretty obvious that the key to getting along with any animal is to recognize their emotions and act accordingly.

However,Humans have a pretty distraught relationship with beasts. They are our companions and our chattel, our family members and our laborers, our household pets and our household pests. We love them and cage them, admire them and abuse them. And then  of course one day , we cook and eat them ) – :

I also think it is safe to say that our judgment towards these animals is clouded by our feelings about any given animal species. A cockroach likely has no less brainpower than a butterfly, but we’re quicker to deny it consciousness because it’s a species we dislike.Poachers will kill an elephant for two reasons…to remove its tusks for money (greed)or just because they feel threatened by its existence,it is a huge mammal, you never know.

donkeydonkey 2

Over the years animals have been enslaved, killed mercilessly, tortured, forced to do things that animals shouldn’t do.Take for example caged tigers in a Zoo somewhere in Serbia forced to walk or literally  jump through  fiery hoops to entertain humans.Same thing happens to an Asian elephant in a Circus somewhere in Indonesia.A lion cub is caged and  bred like a farm chicken in South Africa  and then released just so that  a high-paying tourists can hunt them down using guns – or bows for the ultimate ‘trophy’ kill.Sad,isn’t it?

138 Winter Quarters

Well animals have some form of unique intelligence that we ignore and if we all took time to learn about it,we would look at animals in a whole new way and treat them with a lot of respect. We have been unreasonable towards them, the excuse has always been that animals are ours to do with as we please simply because they don’t suffer the way we do,they don’t think, not in any meaningful way, they don’t worry, they bond but not love like humans etc etc.Don’t be so sure about anything yet.

Now I would like to introduce you to Zoo,an American drama television series based on a Novel by renown author James Patterson.Animals around the planet begin to attack humankind, they have had  it  with the Humans, they start to show them that they can be ‘boss’ too. They kill to prove a point, they are fed up!

This one you should watch…

Read the opening introduction  to the TV Series…

For centuries, mankind has been the dominant species. We domesticated animals, locked them up, killed them for sport. But what if all across the globe, the animals decided no more? And so we were hired a team of people from different backgrounds, with different specialties: an expert in animal behavior, a journalist, safari guide, foreign intelligence agent, and a veterinary pathologist. Our task: to find out what is happening with the animals, why it’s happening, and how to stop it.

zoo piczoo

I know  cruelty to animals is rampant in many parts of the world BUT we could surely  treat all animals better, with love and respect. We are so alike , from elephants mourning for losing a loved one to so much more… And also we could rethink a few things… zoos, marine parks,Poaching,The Canned Hunting Industry and other forms of animal entertainment.

The Entrepreneur BootCamp

DSC_0667 pic

After attending the Pre-Global Entrepreneurship Summit last week,I realized that young Kenyans ,especially those in Universities,Colleges and Polytechnics are very innovative. They have come up with business ideas that not most of us could have thought about at that level..I must admit.

We were able to visit different stands most of them with this young innovators,it was really exciting to see what this young, fresh and brilliant minds had for us.No one ever said that being an entrepreneur/innovator is easy whether established or in the young stage, everyone needs a little push, perhaps some guidance and motivation needed to make it.

With that said, plan to attend the Entrepreneur BootCamp on Friday 31st of July at St.Andrews Church,Nairobi.Whether young, old, own a business or are thinking about setting one in the future, this is just the Forum to attend.Come and learn, meet, network and share your journey with those who are in a similar situation as you or those who have survived and come out as successful.
